Six Low-Priced, Fast-Selling Laptops

Smaller than an ultra-portable laptop and designed primarily for Web surfing and e-mail, the hope was that these light-duty machines would carve out a new market sector as consumers' second- or even third-tier PCs — the equivalent of the kitchen TV.

The devices themselves have screen sizes of roughly 7 inches to 10 inches; they have USB ports, multi-card slots and most have an Ethernet port.

Onboard memory generally stops at one gigabyte (GB). Storage starts at a tiny 4 GB Flash-based solid-state-drive (SSD) and goes up as high as 160 GB with a traditional hard drive. Most come loaded with variants of either Windows XP Home or Linux.

New High-Powered, Long Range WiFi Access Point/Client Bridge

Costa Mesa, CA January 27, 2009 -- Wireless technology Innovator, EnGenius, just introduced their most powerful Wireless Access Point/Client Bridge. The ECB3500 is a high-powered 802.11 Super G long range WiFi device that was designed to offer consistently robust communication over wide areas and long distances, while also being highly adaptable and easy to use.

The ECB3500 provides strong, uninterrupted coverage up to 108 Mbps over a wide area using high 600mW of wireless output power. It operates at the 2.4 GHz frequencies in both the 802.11 b/g (11/ 54 Mbps) or Super G (108 Mbps) wireless standards. And, with the use of QoS (Quality of Service) technology, the ECB3500 optimizes all data transmissions; thereby, maximizing its ability to handle heavy loads of traffic. This includes all forms of wireless video streaming, VoIP (Voice-over IP), and other multimedia business applications.

"We've engineered the ECB3500 to ensure superior long range WiFi coverage to all the leading brands in its class," added Chien.

The key features of the new, powerful ECB3500 are:
  • High 600mW Wireless Power - guarantees a robust signal over long-distances
  • Super G 108 Mbps Support - enables high-transfer speeds for large data transmissions
  • Dual High-Gain Detachable Antennas - optimizes wireless traffic with Antenna Diversity Technology and transmits higher power up to 2000 mW EIRP using a 5dbi antenna
  • Multiple Wireless Names - permits different access levels within one device
  • Multi-Functional Device (7 operation modes) - performs multiple uses for different network topologies
  • Intelligent Quality of Service (QoS) Technology - orders bandwidth priority for high-demand transmissions
  • Power-Over-Ethernet (802.3af) - allows power and data to come over one cable for ease of installation
The device is adaptable to most network environments. For example, in AP mode, the ECB3500 can broadcast multiple WiFi networks (SSID); allowing for numerous security levels within one device. In fact, ECB3500 can serve different functions:
  1. Wireless Access Point - network connectivity for multiple wireless clients
  2. Client Bridge - wireless network connectivity for a single wired client
  3. Universal WiFi Repeater - wireless range extender that reaches dead-spots
  4. WiFi Router - wired internet or network connectivity for multiple wireless clients
  5. Client WiFi Router - wireless network connectivity for multiple wired clients
  6. WDS (Wireless Distribution System) - wireless connectivity to expand an established network
In addition, EnGenius solved one of the biggest problems when installing a new wireless networking product: proximity to outlets. The ECB3500 supports 802.3af PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) which allows power and data to be accessed over a single cable. This feature helps to speed up deployment time and reduces network down time.

The EnGenius ECB3500 Super G, Long Range WiFi 802.11g Wireless Access Point/Client Bridge is a high-powered, efficient wireless product that can adapt to any network topology or business environment. It is available at select value added distributors, direct marketers, e-commerce sites and value-added resellers at a retail price of $119.00.

Wi-Fire extends Wi-Fi signals

The Wi-Fire is a USB device that will boost Wi-Fi signals by using a directional antenna and a powerful receiver that works with it’s proprietary software. With this device your computer can detect and access wireless sources within a 1,000 foot radius. And the folks at Maximum PC put it to the test.

They were surprised at being “350 feet from the router, with the signal passing through an insulated, double-thick interior wall and a steel garage door, the Wi-Fire delivered TCP throughput of 14.5Mb/s.” It’s only $79 and makes Wi-Fi a bullet that goes through said walls and garage doors.

With its integrated high-gain directional antenna and extremely strong receive sensitivity, the Wi-Fire™ gives XP, Vista, Mac and Linux users the freedom to connect to WiFi networks when they want, where they want. Users benefit from the increased mobility and greater range with faster speeds.

Wi-Fire™ provides interoperability with any 802.11 b/g access point and multiplies the effectiveness of wireless networks by allowing users to connect to a WiFi network from up to 1,000 feet–more than three times the range of other 802.11 adapters–often at significantly higher speeds, and even in locations where no wireless signal could be detected previously.

Clearwire portable WiMAX WiFi router imminent

SlashGear - Scottsdale,AZ,USA
Clearwire are preparing to launch a portable WiFi router compatible with a Motorola WiMax USB stick modem, intended for sharing a WiMAX connection with more than one user. The router was demonstrated at the official Clear launch in Portland, Oregon, yesterday.

Although a WiMAX router has been announced by ZyXel, it will require a separate subscription to a USB modem for an individual device. With this Clearwire router, the same USB modem could be used for mobile surfing as well as home internet connection. Clearwire are apparently keen to promote devices such as these, which will share out a single connection, rather than seeing them as a bandwidth threat.

WiFiRV Increases Budget in Wireless Services

Westport, Conn. January 12, 2009 -- WiFiRV, a provider of WiFi high-speed wireless Internet services for the outdoor recreational hospitality industry, recently reported continued growth for 2008 and a new budget of $1,500,000 to invest wireless services for the RV industry in 2009.

Consistent high-speed WiFi Internet access is what all property managers want. RV parks, campgrounds, and resorts were geographically located so travelers could "get away from it all" but now they want to be away from it all and take it all with them too.

That's where WiFiRV comes in. WiFiRV has consistently shown it is the best solution for RV owners to get high-speed Internet, and that has been even more evident as WiFiRV sales continue to rise even in a down economy.

"2008 was a banner season for WiFiRV," said John Borg II, CEO and founder of WiFiRV. "Now more than ever, RV and campground owners need to stay connected to the world. Our goal is to provide the best, fastest, most reliable Internet service to as many of them as possible." With parks becoming more competitive to attract patron travelers during the economic downturn Borg opened the budget for 2009 to meet their goal of bringing no more than 250 new properties online this year.

WiFi is considered the most economical way to get Internet access to campers. That said, Borg warns property managers and owners that WiFi is not without challenges. 24x7 support is needed for this demographic, outdoor wireless engineering is difficult in RV resort terrain, and having a team of engineers nationwide is nearly required to ensure reliability for travelers needing online.

WiFiRV is doing its best to provide reliable WiFi high-speed Internet access. Do you know of an RV Park that needs wireless internet? Tell WiFiRV and they will do their best to provide help.

Since founding WiFiRV, Borg has seen the benefits of WiFi amenities in countless RV parks, resorts, and campgrounds - many of which did not have reliable Internet access previously. Properties consistently report increased occupancies and loyalty, Borg said. To date, WiFiRV has invested $2,500,000 in capital, labor services, and equipment. RV parks depend on WiFiRV to bring value-added services to their businesses every day and so 2009 will be another year they continue to support the maturation of the market.

"In 2002 we started WiFiRV when we recognized a need to help travelers stay connected on the road," stated John Borg II, CEO and Founder of WiFiRV. "We created simple do-it-yourself WiFi systems, complex managed bandwidth amenities, and everything in between to give real estate owners and property managers a choice."

About WiFiRV:
WiFiRV is a premier service provider for wireless high-speed Internet access. Our Wi-Fi "Hot Spots" are located in RV parks, campgrounds, and resorts across the country, allowing travelers visiting the parks to access the Internet via their laptops. Headquartered in Westport, CT, WiFiRV offers turnkey Wi-Fi packages for RV and campground real estate owners that include award winning network design, personalized websites, email services, installation, remote management, and guest support services. WiFiRV reports hundreds of properties in the RV park and campground industry are using their high-speed wireless network across the U.S.
